Escaping the Mundane
The Web site mediabistro has a Q & A with me under the subtitle “This writer regularly turns mundane topics into bestselling books.” I can’t argue with the nice coverage the site gave me, but are the topics I’ve written about—mathematics, aviation, and now chess—really that “mundane”?

They’re not mundane at all of course. It is a common mistake of lay people that maths is “boring” or chess is “boring”, but lovers of both beg to differ. How to explain life-long obsessions with either, if they were merely “mundane”? A little thought and a little exploration shows quite the opposite!
